What is closed course?

Closed Course is a course that is created by teachers and taught in a closed community. This course type is ideal for teachers who want to use the platform as a learning tool and have their own students either through an institution or a locality.

Closed Course is also ideal for teacher who want to use mElimu as an Activity platform where they can give assignments, collaborate through forums, messages and live classes.

What are various types of courses that I can create?

We are providing four types of closed courses which a teacher can create on the platform and earn by engaging more students in courses. These courses are Crash Course, Short Course, Medium Term Course and Full Year Course. The difference in these courses is the maximum length that these courses can be setup for. Each course has a different platform fee, which you can check here.

Is there a way to teach my students for free?

mElimu is a Social enterprise and wants teachers to use our platform for free where students can access the learning through any modern web browser. The mobile application is not free.

Can I create a closed course and disallow the free option?

Yes while creating the course you can disallow free option to your course.

Can I setup a fee for the course?

You can setup a fee for the course which will be collected through mElimu Payment Gateway. mElimu will deduct the payment gateway charges and the platform fee and remit the rest of the money to your mPesa or Paypal account.

Eg: If you have setup a Medium Term course for {amount4000} and a student registers and pays you will receive {amount4000} - {amount500} (mElimu Platform fee) - {amount40} (mPesa Payment Gateway fee) = {amount3460}

Could I make money by referring other educators?

Any one may refer an educator to sign on. You will receive {amount10000} (USD 100) per successful referral. You will earn referral bonus once your referral has engaged at least 50 paying students. Always encourage and help your fellow teacher in joining the mElimu Education Service Provider Platform. Remember to use your referral code to sign up other educators. Your referral code is your email address. You will not earn the referral bonus unless your referred educator engages at least 50 paying users.

Note: You will not be able to withdraw the referral bonus, if you have not started a course or there are no students who have enrolled in your own courses. You need atleast 10 students to pay for mElimu Application to qualify for referral.

Can I take course fee from students myself?

Yes you can use your own methods to collect the student fee and pay mElimu Platform fee yourself.

How can I invite students for my courses?

Yes, you can invite students and enroll them free or paid in your courses using Register & Enroll, Search & Enroll or Generate Coupon Code. Paid enrollment can be done against cash payments from students for the course unit. Your wallet balance deduction depends on paid enrollment of students in the course unit.

If you paid enroll a student in course unit, deduction from your wallet and amount credit to your wallet will be as per course type.

Example: If you paid enroll a student in Medium Term Course then as per course type, {amount2000} (USD 5) will be deducted from your wallet as mElimu earning and rest difference amount from course fee will be your earnings. If course fee is {amount2000} (USD 20) then your earnings will be {amount1500} (USD 15) for that unit per paid enroll student.

Can I make any student as my representative to enroll other students?

Yes, you can make any student as your course representative who will be able to enroll other students free in that particular course.

I am registered. What do I do next?

Once you are registered with us, then you have to create course, publish it and start engaging students for e-learning forum discussions, assignments, grades, quizzes and video notes on mobile app.

When students purchase mElimu mobile app, you will earn money for each student that pays for the mobile app. It will reduce your efforts for managing grades, forums, assignments, quizzes and other learning activities. You can also keep ownership of your content.

When will I be paid? How will I get my money?

You can get paid by 2 ways. You can collect money from your students and after deducting your commission you have to submit rest of the amount through mElimu Payment Gateway or you can directly ask student to pay via mpesa or credit card into mElimu account. We will remit the balance of your commission to your mPesa or Paypal account.

How do I get support for using mElimu ESP?

How do I download app?

Would it be necessary for the students to purchase mElimu Smartphone tablets?

No, it's not necessary for student to purchase mElimu Smartphone tablets. Student just need to download app from a shared link upon payment. mElimu works on all of Android Smartphones and Tablets. We are working on a native mobile app for iOS.

I am based in South Africa. Could my students purchase the app? How would I be paid?

Students can purchased the app once they are engaged with you, they can pay for units as they registered via bank transfer or credit card to mElimu Company Ltd. We will settle your commission balances every month via bank transfer to your account. Alternatively, you may collect on our behalf and remit the balance to our bank account for activating paid users.
